Ms. Jackie Konrad - Kindergarten

Welcome to Kindergarten! My name is Ms. Jackie Konrad. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Concordia University. I have been teaching Early Childhood classes now for 9 years.
In kindergarten the students will learn how to hold a pencil and practice forming letters by writing their names, which gives them practice writing letters capital and lowercase, shapes, tracing and spacing letters correctly, and writing from left to right. Students will also learn how to cut holding scissors properly along dotted lines, basic colors, and sight words.
Kindergarteners will begin subjects such as religion, reading, math, and social sciences. In religion, this year the students will start to learn more about God, Jesus, and the Holy Family. This is the first year students will be attending weekly Mass. The students will be taught the proper way to perform the Sign of the Cross, praying the Our Father and Hail Mary.
In reading the students will start a program called Superkids, which is a program to help engage students, given their own book, with interactive adventures of characters to help improve writing, tracing, phonics of letters and words. I-Ready is another interactive program the students will begin as they will learn how to use a Chromebook in class with subjects in reading and math. In these subjects the students will learn rhyming, number and word patterns, as well as addition and subtraction. In addition to I-Ready the students will learn how to count to 100 and recognize numbers.
In social sciences kindergarteners will start to learn about national holidays, geography, history, and knowing the days of the week and months of the year. The students will also learn about the seasons and weather, as well as the five senses of the human body, and identifying characteristics of plants and animals. Students will also implement hands on learning activities with arts and crafts.
Kindergarten is an important time for students as they start to develop social skills and responsibilities throughout the year. I enjoy instilling the love of learning as well as helping them grow spiritually in the beginning of their educational journey here at Saint Odilo School.
