Mrs. Tracey Ocampo - 2nd Grade

Welcome to Second Grade!!!
My name is Tracey Ocampo and I have been a member of the St. Odilo faculty for over 20 years! I have taught primarily in first grade but am thrilled to be back teaching in second grade again! Building upon the basic skills the children have learned in first grade, then watching them really begin to blossom academically in second grade is a tremendous experience for me. The growth that takes place throughout the year is phenomenal!!
Here is some of what you can expect your child to be learning througout the school year:
Students are challenged to become more fluent readers through our Superkids Literacy program; they will read longer, more complicated stories; they will begin to develop and create more descriptive pieces of writing using correct spelling, punctuation, capitalization and paragraphs.
Some of the other skills your child will learn in second grade consist of understanding place value, mentally adding numbers to 20, addition and subtraction with regrouping, telling time, adding and subtracting money and making change-just to name a few.
Our Science and Social Studies units include such topics as understanding the water cycle, studying landforms and continents, the weather and seasons, discussing current events and much more. However, most importantly, second grade is a pivotal year in Religion. The children will begin to attend daily Mass, they will begin to know Jesus, learn about sin through the Ten Commmandments and the beauty of forgiveness through Confession.
But the best part of second grade is when we end our year by receiving Jesus in the Eucharist for the very first time together.
As you can see, your second grader will be working hard this year but there will also be lots and lots of fun in between!!! I truly love second grade and I'm confident your child will too!
