The curriculum of St. Odilo School is guided by the Holy See’s Five Essential Marks of a Catholic School.
I. Inspired by a supernatural vision.
The specific purpose of a Catholic Education is the formation of young people who will be good citizens of this world, loving God and neighbor and enriching society with the gospel while striving to be citizens of the world to come and fulfill their destiny to become saints. St Odilo School trains patriotic citizens, literate workers, and moral servant leaders.
II. Founded on a Christian Anthropology
A Catholic school must be founded on Jesus Christ, the Redeemer. He is the center and fulcrum of the entire establishment. As such, the church is the most important place on our campus.
III. Animated by Communion and Community
A Catholic school must suffuse the environment with delight in the sacramental. The spirit of the St. Odilo Curriculum is our Roman Catholic religious tradition. Our students take part in traditional Catholic devotions that unite us in our faith. We attend daily Mass and pray the Rosary weekly in October and May. We make the Stations of the Cross in Lent and we receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in Advent and Lent. Our students also participate in Benediction and Adoration of the
IV. Imbued with a Catholic World View
A Catholic education is intentionally directed to the growth of the whole person. St. Odilo School strives to form strong and responsible young people who will live making free and correct choices.
V. Sustained by Gospel Witness
A Catholic education is one where teachers reveal the Christian message by word and behavior. St. Odilo School is a community that bears transparent witness to Christ and the beauty of the Gospel.
Our academic teams utilize all three educational domains, the cognitive (mind), the psychomotor (body), and the affective (spirit), in planning and delivering instruction.
Our Early Childhood/Primary Team (PreK, Kindergarten, 1st Grade & 2nd Grade) competencies begin with social skills and group behavior. Later on we build language arts proficiency through instruction in phonics, spelling, printing, and cursive. Early mathematics skills focus on the addition/subtraction of whole numbers. In Second Grade we prepare for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist.
Our Intermediate Team (3rd Grade, 4th Grade, & 5th Grade) competencies include memorization of the multiplication and division tables along with the multiplication and division of whole numbers, decimals, and fractions. While focusing on critical reading skills, our students learn to memorize, write, and recite poetry. We also introduce the history and geography of the World in general and America in specific, as well as botany, zoology, geology, hydrology, and astronomy.
Our Middle School Team (6th Grade, 7th Grade, & 8th Grade) has a singular focus on making sure our students are the best prepared ninth graders at any high school they attend. To attain this goal we teach Latin, the Iliad, the Odyssey, and the Aeneid. We also introduce anatomy, meteorology, chemistry, and physics. We expand our study of World and American history and geography, and our math instruction rises to include Geometry and Algebra. Our students are well prepared for the Catholic High School Placement Test, and receive guidance in the High School selection process. Our 6th Graders prepare for and receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Everyone has special gifts from the Holy Spirit that are to be nurtured and cultivated. Our students participate in Physical Education classes and school sports teams. Students receive Music and Art instruction at every level, and our Middle School students take computer science classes. We also offer extracurricular activities in the performing arts.
